Trott Supports Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
WASHINGTON, DC: Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after voting in support of H.J.Resolution 2 - Proposing a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, an amendment that would reduce wasteful federal spending and force Washington to balance the federal budget:
"This amendment reflects the need to create a healthier economy, balance the budget, and force Congress to make tough decisions about prioritizing responsible spending. The excessive debt we have incurred as a nation has serious impacts for future generations. A Constitutional mandate to balance the federal budget may be the only way to put a stop to Washington's out-of-control spending. The American people want to see fiscal responsibility, and we owe it to future generations to reverse the course of wasteful federal spending before it is too late. This crucial legislation amends the U.S. Constitution to require that Congress not spend more than it receives in revenue."
This important, fiscally conservative resolution would:
- Hold Washington to the same standard as everyday Americans
- Repair the alarming deficit damage
- Invest in the future to continue to expand and grow our economy
Since coming to Congress, Rep. Trott has fought tirelessly for the need to reduce wasteful Washington spending and put the nation back on a path towards fiscal responsibility, especially as our country faces an astounding $20 trillion debt.
