Trott on ISIS Attacks on Coptic Community in Egypt
WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement in response to this morning's attacks on the Coptic Christian community in Egypt:
"My thoughts and prayers are with the Coptic Community at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Troy whose families in Egypt faced yet another series of targeted attacks as they begin the Holy Week. I also extend my condolences to the families of the brave Egyptian policeman and policewoman who sacrificed their own lives to protect the lives of countless others.
"The two attacks this morning are part of a disturbing trend specifically targeting Coptic Christians in Egypt that has included attacks on houses of worship, religious cleansing in the Sinai, and now an unsuccessful attempt to murder the Coptic Pope. After President Sisi’s visit to Washington this past week, I plan on working with President Trump, the Egyptian Government, and my colleagues in Congress on helping root out terrorism and identifying the underlying causes of this deeply rooted sectarianism."
