Trott: Currency Manipulation Crackdown Protects SE Michigan Jobs
WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer stated the Administration is weighing considering currency manipulation protections as a part of a North American Free Trade Agreement renegotiation:
"For decades, Southeast Michigan manufacturers at every level of the supply chain have been decimated - put at a competitive disadvantage by countries that unfairly manipulate their currency. We need to crackdown on currency manipulators, like China, leveling the playing field for domestic manufactures and ensuring we set the rules. I am greatly encouraged by the Administration's interest in taking into account this important issue - one that will protect the jobs of hardworking Michigan families."
Rep. Trott has been an outspoken proponent of currency manipulation protections in international trade deals, helping lead the effort to include currency manipulation protections in the Trade Promotion Authority and raising concerns regarding the TPP's failure to include adequate protections.
