Trott: Congressional Healthcare Exemption Undermines Our Democratic Principles
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after cosponsoring the Public Health Service Act (H.R. 2192) legislation that prevents Members of Congress from exempting themselves and their staffs from the American Health Care Act (AHCA):
“In our nation’s enviable democracy, no one is above the law. Members of Congress must abide by the laws they create, and, as we work deliberately to improve our nation’s healthcare system, we must ensure that all Americans, constituents and Congress alike, have access to the same high-quality care. Anything less undermines the principles for which our nation stands.”
The Public Health Service Act would repeal the section of the American Health Care Act that exempts Members of Congress and Congressional staff should the American Health Care Act become law.
