Trott Applauds Bolstered Support of Our Troops & Full Funding of GLRI
WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after voting in support of the Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 244), legislation that fully funds the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), provides resources to combat the opioid epidemic, and supports our nation's military:
"While this legislation isn't perfect, I believe it provides critical support for our military, Michigan families, and the Great Lakes. This bill supports our servicemen and women who put their lives on the line each and every day by providing our troops with the resources they need to safely and effectively do their job. Furthermore, when our troops return home, it provides them with the benefits and high-quality medical care they earned.
"In Michigan, this bill fully funds the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, a program that has shown measurable results - restoring natural habitats, cleaning up Areas of Concern, and improving water quality throughout the Great Lakes basin. Additionally, this legislation also helps localities obtain the resources they need to combat the opioid epidemic, an alarming and continuing trend that has robbed us of so many of our communities' most promising young people.
"At the same time, it is critical that Washington deliberately and carefully reduces our nation's spending. Instead of continuing to fund the government through short term spending extensions, Congress needs to work hard towards a balanced budget-one that reduces our nation's debt and allows us to pass down a strong fiscal future to the next generation of Americans."
