Rep. Trott Votes to Protect Southeast Michigan Veterans and Servicemembers

April 30, 2015
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC:  U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) today voted in support of legislation to protect Southeast Michigan’s veterans and ensure the Veterans’ Administration (VA) has the resources needed to better assist the men and women who have served our nation.

“Southeast Michigan’s veterans are special people. They have stepped forward to serve the cause of freedom and defend our nation against all enemies—so it is imperative that we ensure that when our veterans come home they receive the best possible care and service from the government.  While Washington still has a long way to go to fix the many problems with the VA’s bureaucracy, this legislation is an important step towards giving Michigan’s vets the top-notch service they deserve,” said Rep. Trott.

The legislation, supported by Rep. Trott, ensures veterans receive better health benefits and job training programs by strengthening discretionary funding for veterans programs by 5.6% over last year’s spending levels. The measure also helps address the VA’s benefits claims procedure by providing additional staff to process claims and allow veterans to receive their benefits faster.

Since coming to Congress, Rep. Trott has supported several bipartisan measures that will improve veteran care, reform the Veterans’ Administration, and make it easier for military veterans to find employment after they leave the armed forces.

Michigan’s Eleventh Congressional District is home to over 43,000 military veterans.
