Rep. Trott Votes to Protect Our Nation’s Police Officers
WASHINGTON, DC: Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after voting in support of House Resolution 5698 - the Protect and Serve Act of 2018, a bill that would provide a significant deterrent for those seeking to attack police officers:
"Attacks against police officers continue to rise across the country. These heroic men and women selflessly put their lives on the line every day to protect Americans and it is our duty to ensure that we are doing everything in our power to keep them safe. This important legislation allows for the federal prosecution of anyone who knowingly causes or attempts to cause significant bodily injury to any law enforcement officer. Sadly, our nation has witnessed an increase in attacks against law enforcement officers in recent years and we must do more to prevent attacks against our nation’s heroes.” said Rep. Trott
Since coming to Congress, Rep. Trott has continuously supported legislation that allows law enforcement to safely and effectively do their job. Rep. Trott co-sponsored the Protecting Lives Using Surplus Equipment Act of 2017 (H.R. 426), which rescinds the ban on armored defense vehicles used by law enforcement and as our local police units combat ever-evolving 21st century threats, Rep. Trott voted in favor of the Strengthening State and Local Cyber Crime Fighting Act of 2017 (H.R. 1616), legislation which provides local law enforcement with the tools and training they need to combat cybercrime and cyberattacks.
