Rep. Trott Votes Against Irresponsibly Raising the Federal Debt Limit

October 28, 2015
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC:  U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) today released the following statement after voting against federal spending legislation that raises the debt limit:

“The American people have asked Congress to make the tough decisions to get our nation back on track, but this budget bill does little more than reinforce Washington’s irresponsible spending habits and gives President Obama a blank check to add trillions more to the national debt. While the bipartisan spirit of this bill is a good step, I cannot support a reckless budget plan that borrows more money we don’t have and does not make any substantial reforms to the way Washington spends taxpayers’ money. Families in Southeast Michigan don’t want to see our children and grandchildren’s futures jeopardized by Washington politicians who are unwilling to make the responsible decisions for our spending priorities. This is not the time to kick the can down the road—now is the time to stand up and make the reforms needed to make our country strong again.”
