Rep. Trott Supports Bill to Halt Job-Killing Federal Regulations
WASHINGTON, DC: U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) today voted in support of legislation that will require Congress to vote on any new major federal regulations put forward by the President.
“Each week I hear from job providers in Southeast Michigan that are being held back by the costly regulations coming from Washington bureaucrats. Just recently during my ‘Main Street Tour’ in Northville, I spoke with small business owners who face the burdens of unneeded federal regulations every day. It’s time to get Washington out of the way and let our small businesses grow and hire more employees,” said Rep. Trott, a lifelong resident of Southeast Michigan who created 1,800 jobs during his career.
The legislation, known as the “Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act” (REINS Act), will require agencies to submit major regulations to Congress for approval—guaranteeing no costly regulations are put in place without a Congressional vote. Under the legislation, Congress must hold an up or down vote within 70 legislative days of the regulation being issued.
“Ineffective and unneeded federal regulations suffocate our small businesses and force Michigan families to pay higher costs when they go to the store. This bill is a common sense solution to fix this regulatory overreach by letting the American people, through their elected representatives, have a say in the rules that impact their lives,” added Rep. Trott.
