Rep. Trott Comments on Planned Exit from the Iran Nuclear Deal
WASHINGTON, DC: Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after President Trump announced that the United States will terminate its participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, and re-impose sanctions lifted under the deal:
“Since the beginning, I have been opposed to the Obama Administration’s nuclear deal with Iran and have long believed that it paves the way for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon. Today, President Trump made the right decision to withdraw from the misguided deal, to pressure the Iranian regime to alter its course of nefarious activities, in order to ensure that Iran will no longer be rewarded for its hostile actions. The agreement failed to deal with the threat of Iran’s missile program and did not include a strong enough mechanism for inspections and verification. I believe the President’s decision offers the United States and our allies an opportunity to try a new approach that will put a permanent end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions and stop the regime’s destabilizing efforts in the Middle East.” said Rep. Trott
Congressman Trott voted against the Iran nuclear deal in 2015 and has been Michigan’s leading in voice in Congress in opposition to the agreement.
