Ford Adds Jobs, Fuel Efficient Transmission Production in Livonia

May 19, 2017
Press Release

WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Representative Dave Trott (MI-11) issued the following statement after Ford Motor Company announced its plans to upgrade the Livonia Transmission Plant with the addition of the production of a more fuel-efficient transmission:

"Paving the first mile of concrete highway, Michigan has long led the future of automotive innovation, and Southeast Michigan's Big Three have not wavered in carrying on this tradition of ingenuity. Today's announcement by Ford, the addition of a new fuel-efficient transmission in Livonia, further underscores its commitment to raising the bar, modernizing our domestic automotive production in conjunction with the unmatched work product of the hardworking men and women of Michigan - an unequaled duo that will undoubtedly continue Ford and Michigan's unparalleled reputation on the world stage."

"We remain committed to American manufacturing and investing in our people and facilities," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford Motor Company President of The Americas. "Even as the industry's largest employer of hourly workers in the U.S. and biggest producer of American-made vehicles, we believe it is important to continue investing right here in our home market."

Ford will create or retain 800 hourly jobs to support production of the new fuel-efficient transmission. This investment in Livonia Transmission Plant is in addition to $1.4 billion and 500 created or retained hourly jobs announced for the plant in 2016 to support production of a new 10-speed transmission for the 2017 F-150 Raptor and certain F-150 models.

Since the beginning of 2017, Ford has announced more than $2.25 billion worth of new investments in Michigan.
