Wasteful Spending and Debt
Every mom and dad in Southeast Michigan knows that they can’t spend more money than they take in each year—yet that’s exactly what Washington does. The federal government routinely spends hundreds of billions of dollars more each year than it takes in.
Because of this serious mismanagement of our nation’s finances, America’s national debt now stands at over $18,000,000,000,000 (that’s 18 trillion). That means each child born in our nation now owes $56,000 as a share of the national debt. Yet, Washington continues to spend money America doesn’t have on big-government initiatives that don’t work.
That is unacceptable.
Rep. Trott believes the best place to start fixing America’s financial problem is by enacting a balanced federal budget—a spending plan that makes tough decisions and stops stealing from our children. It’s time that we start forcing Washington to finally live within its means.
That’s why Rep. Trott has supported a responsible, balanced budget for the United States that reduces the debt and balances the budget within the decade. A balanced budget will create a healthier economy and make it easier for hard-working Michigan families to make ends meet.
Additionally, Rep. Trott supports adding a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution to constitutionally require the government to balance the federal budget each year. History has shown that Washington cannot be trusted to reduce wasteful spending.
Having ran a business and created 1,800 jobs in Southeast Michigan, Rep. Trott knows firsthand the importance of balancing a budget and living within your means. As the 11th District’s voice in Congress, Rep. Trott will continue fighting to reduce wasteful Washington spending, slash the national debt, and build a stronger future for the nation.
