Congressman Dave Trott

Representing the 11th District of Michigan

Foreign Affairs

Rep. Dave Trott is at the forefront of shaping American foreign policy and promoting our nation’s values of liberty and freedom throughout the world.

Being the leader of freedom and liberty across the globe, America plays a unique role on the world stage.  As the world’s oldest democratic republic, the United States is recognized as a beacon of hope for oppressed and struggling people throughout the world.

Rep. Trott believes that it is critical that America continues its unparalleled position in world affairs and continues promoting human rights and freedom. On the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rep. Trott is working to ensure that other countries abide by these basic human principles, while also advocating for the right to religious freedom of the numerous oppressed minorities in the world.

Like many Americans, Rep. Trott is deeply concerned about the Obama Administration’s continuing negotiations with Iran over their nuclear ambitions. The threat of a nuclear-armed Iran poses a serious risk to the security of America and our allies. Rep. Trott is committed to continue working with his colleagues to ensure that the world does not have to face the danger of a nuclear-armed Iran.

In the 114th Congress, Rep. Trott served on the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa and the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats.

This important resolution condemns the actions of a radical regime that not only denies basic freedoms, but also continues to provide billions of dollars to terrorist activities abroad. As the largest demonstration against the nefarious regime in Tehran since 2009, it is important that the people of Iran know that the United States stands with them.

I applaud today’s decision by the administration to withdraw from this proposed arms deal which would have benefited these same bodyguards – a deal that would have been nothing short of an endorsement of their brutal attack.
August 2, 2017 Press Release
North Korea, Iran, Russia – these are some of our world’s most nefarious actors, and we must hold them accountable for their overt provocations against our country.
July 25, 2017 Press Release
Choking off their economic lifeline smothers their ability to undermine our national security and gives us the upper hand we need to protect Americans and our allies at home and around the world.

It's time for the State Department to do the same. We need to block this arms sale and once and for all point a finger in Erdogan's chest and tell him that a strategic location does not place Turkey above the law.
June 29, 2017 Press Release
As the very model of freedom and liberty around the world, the United States cannot condone such an overt suppression of democracy and this proposed arms deal would be nothing less than an endorsement of Erdogan’s henchmen’s brutal attack.
June 7, 2017 Press Release
I, Rep. Debbie Dingell, and many other concerned Members from the Great Lakes region, implored Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to do everything in his power - diplomatic and legal - to protect our Great Lakes. Inaction is too high a price to pay.
June 7, 2017 Press Release
Whether it was the Ottoman Empire’s cold, coordinated campaign to exterminate the Armenian population, or Erdogan’s thugs beating up people outside the United Nations, kicking peaceful protestors in the head in Washington, or shutting down free speech and journalists in Turkey, Erdogan and his high-priced lobbyists have continually tried to rewrite history. We need to call them out and hold them accountable for who they really are – thugs.
April 9, 2017 Press Release
The two attacks this morning are part of a disturbing trend specifically targeting Coptic Christians in Egypt that has included attacks on houses of worship, religious cleansing in the Sinai, and now an unsuccessful attempt to murder the Coptic Pope. After President Sisi’s visit to Washington this past week, I plan on working with President Trump, the Egyptian Government, and my colleagues in Congress on helping root out terrorism and identifying the underlying causes of this deeply rooted sectarianism.
