Congressman Dave Trott

Representing the 11th District of Michigan

Energy and Environment

Rep. Dave Trott knows that affordable energy is critically important for families and job-providers in Southeast Michigan and he is committed to finding long-term solutions that lower energy costs and grow the economy.

America needs to have a true all-of-the-above approach to lower energy costs, reduce dependence on energy from volatile regions of the world, and create more jobs. That’s why Rep. Trott is working in Congress to get Washington out of the way and ensure we responsibly utilize our nation’s incredible array of energy resources.

Rep. Trott supports building the Keystone XL Pipeline and voted to end the Obama Administration’s roadblock of this important job-creating project. Construction of the pipeline will improve energy security in North America while creating 42,000 new jobs.

Having created thousands of Michigan jobs over his 30 year career, Rep. Trott knows firsthand that the solutions to America’s energy solutions will come from hard-working Americans and businesses, not from Washington.

Michigan’s incredible natural splendor makes our state one of America’s most beautiful and also is a leading driver of Michigan’s economy—contributing nearly $19 billion in economic activity yearly. Being a lifelong resident of Michigan, Rep. Trott is committed to ensuring our state’s natural resources and Great Lakes are protected for future generations to enjoy.

The plans for this location have been in the works for years, and I urge the President to take a closer look at what's at stake. Our magnificent Great Lakes are not only one of our country's most prized natural wonders, they also provide 95% of the U.S.' fresh drinking water, and support over $20 billion in recreational and commercial industries a year.

As you know, 23 million gallons of oil flow through the two pipelines in the Straits of Mackinac every day. A spill in that location would have a devastating impact on the Great Lakes and the economy of the surrounding states. On September 27, 2016, Enbridge identified several potential 'holidays' on the pipeline where there may be a loss of protective coating around the pipe. We urge you to review Enbridge's work plan in an expedited fashion so these vulnerabilities can be investigated as soon as possible.

Representing one-fifth of the world’s fresh surface water, the Great Lakes are one of the most critical and sensitive ecosystems in the world, and I am alarmed by Ontario Power Generation’s plan to bury nuclear waste within a mile of their shores.
